Background Music Systems for Offices

Work areas need quiet music

Office work areas need music that stays in the background: calm, even, and easy to ignore. The brief should name the work done in each area — focused work, phone calls, or meetings — because each kind of work tolerates a different music presence.

Meeting rooms deserve their own lines even in office briefs. A meeting room needs music only before and after meetings, if at all, while an open work area may want music all day. Name meeting rooms separately from work areas.

Waiting areas and reception

Office reception and waiting areas want music that welcomes visitors without overwhelming conversation. The brief should name the visitor journey: entrance, reception, waiting, and meeting rooms, with the feel wanted at each step.

Announcements in offices are usually staff messages: visitors arriving, meetings starting, and general notices. The brief should name which zones hear announcements, and whether visitors hear them too.

Briefing an office music line

Brief an office music line with work areas, meeting rooms, waiting areas, and the visitor journey, then ask what to measure in each room and what to check on a sample.
